Rough Cut Survey
Copy and paste this link into the web address bar to take this survey.
Results From Survey Monkey On My Rough Cut
From the results of the survey monkey we can see 40 percent of the audience found the overall music video excellent and another 40 percent found the overall music video poor but the 20 percent left found the overall music video ‘good’ which as a conclusion show that the overall draft of the music video was at a satisfactory point. The audience was on a fifty, fifty side when it came to whether there were a wide range of shots in the music video. The audience answered 50n% yes for whether there were a range of wide shots in the rough draft and then also 50% no for whether there was a wide range of shots in the rough draft. 66.7 percent of the audience said they will recommend this music video to a friend to watch it which is more than half of the people that took this questionnaire, which again is some positive feedback. Once again it was on a 50’50 percent for both yes and no from the audience on whether they could see a beginning, middle and end on Goodwin’s theory. 50 percent of the audience thought that the way the character played the role in the rough draft was excellent and also 80 percent of the audience said without being tol the music videos genre was R’n’B this was already recognizable to them. 83.3 percent of the audience thought that the music and the visuals went well together. 66.7% of the audience also thought that the camera shots were just ‘good’ as it held the majority of votes. 83.3% of the people who took my questionnaire on my rough draft were 17-19 years old of age and 66.7 percent of the audience that answered my questionnaire were females. In conclusion we can see how the audience isn’t too fond of the display of the rough draft and are more on a 50/50 chance about most of the things within the music video, we can also see that it is aimed at females mostly which the intention of the music video is to do and the age range of the people that took the questionnaire were 17-19years old. With the results of this questionnaire for my rough draft it can help me really advance my final music video edits.

Final CD COVER Including CD Disk
Front Of CD Cover
This is my final magazine advert because the colours are very vibrant and shocking with the bright pink every where the title of the song really stands out, you can instantly tell what the artists name is, and what the magazine advert is promoting, you can see where the CD is avaialable clearly which is itunes and HMV. I purposely made the colour of the font for the text saying : "SINGLE OUT NOW." So that the viewer is very aware the Cd is out and wouldn't have to ask around to know when the Cd is out.I have a different base of contrasts and I have also mixed a lot of brightness in it, there are different fonts used and not just one plain boring one. The text saying 'Voicemail' has been typed in the Porcelain font, which is a very high end glamorous font which represents the star motif in the image and the rest of the text is Calibri and times new roman.

Wretch 32 Promotional Magazine
Advertisement Analysis
We can see from this music advert that the photograph used is the same photograph used on the album, I think this has been used so that people will know what album to buy of the artist. The music advert is mainly about about the artist. They have shown the star motif as a type of hood, urban person which could possibly give the message to someone that the genre of the type of music the music advert is advertising is urban, which another genre comes under which hasn't fully developed in the music industry which is 'Grime.' From the font we can see it is some sort of basic text and the rest are the font of 'Times New Roman.' The font of it isn't really creative but the graphics to the music advert will attract people to want to buy the album. When we look at the music advert we can see how it represents the urban scene with the the block of flats representing what the star motif mainly talks about in his album, the 'underground' or as they would say the 'hood' The black background for the title 'Wretchrospective' seems like a grundge theme, this can also be portrayed as something that is representing the music genre 'Grime.' When you first look at this music advert the first thing we can notice is the blue background and then we see the star motif. We can see from the star motifs costume that he is mainly representing how the youths of today are represented, this follows on to be a fashion trend for the youths of today as this is how they aol dress, with the plain top and the baggy jeans.
His face is not facing the camera but is rather facing to the side, I think this could possibly mean he is showing to everyone that he just doesn't care who is possibly looking at him , he doesn't have to look at them. We can see the grunge graphics have taken over his arms, I think this shows him trying to say Grime has taken over him, he is the music genre 'Grime.' I can also see that it is just his face left but it seems the grundge is in the process of taken over the rest of him. We can see a chain with a cross on it hanging out of his pocket, this could either be a religious view or another fashion statement as cross chains are worn around the neck and are not hanged from their pockets. The details clearly state to us some of the things on the album and when the album comes out and also where you can purchase the album from, from places such as itunes,HMV,and 7digital.
RICK ROSS 'TEFLON DON' CD COVER ANALYSIS
The Album is by Rick Ross and Is called 'Teflon Don', this suggests that the album is of an HipHop genre, as Don is the slang term for gangster, thug etc. In all hip hop has always had that typical stereotype of a relation to thugs within its music, more of it coming across as gangster talk. The font of the front cover of the album is Unknown, but has some sort of creativity within the drive of the simplicity of the cd cover. On the front cover of the album we can clearly see that it is the star motif himself on the front cover, and the main thing that stands out on him is his sun glasses, then the next thing that would come to our attention is the tattoo on the side of his eye and his big beard. Once again the artists image is the typical stereotype of a 'Gangster', 'Thug' or 'Don ' as they would call it. There isn't really any sort of emotion we can see through his face as he is wearing glasses and we definately know that he is not smiling, he seems very emotionless, and I am guessing that 'Dons' aren't meant to show any sort of emotion at all. There is a black background so nothing on this album cover is colourful and we can see through his sunglasses there is a reflection of buildings/architecture and something like a grey sky, this is clear to us that the view of whatever he is meant to be watching has been edited into the sunglasses, to try and give it more of a realistic base to it.For the back of the album cover the first thing we can see that catches our eyes is the tattoos on his hand and the gold ring, then the second thing will be his hat. In this photograph you can't see his face at all and judging from the front of the albums cover we could say that he is trying to portray a hidden identity, and people should know who he is just buy looking at his tattoos. Making himself have an hidden identity on his album is telling us the viewers/buyers that even although we do know his face he wants us to identify him by his tattoos. It seems as if his tattoos have a huge meaning to him that he wants everybody else to know about.
We can see text wise that before introducing the music that is on the album the first thing a buyer would read is who the executive producer is, the DEF JAM A&R, and the Maybach Music A&R. The font used for the text at the back of the album is evidently Arial and also Arial Bold, the text colour is white and grey for the bits where people feature on the album, its obvious Rick Ross wants the album to be all about him and nobody else reason being why other famous artists name the text is grey, which definately stands out from the black background. We can then see the logo has been put on there possibly created as a PDF file (transparent background) to go on the back of the cd cover. Rick Ross belongs to the Maybach Record Label which was founded by himself and is owned by Dej Jam Recordings. The records company first album was released in 2009 which was by Rick Ross track entitled 'Deeper Than Rap.' Rick Ross later signed Torch, Gunplay, and Young Breed to his record label. In 2010 Ross released the album Teflon Don.
LIL WAYNE THA CARTER III CD COVER
From the front cover of this album we are given a photograph of a baby. This baby evidently isn't no ordinary baby, it's the artist of the album as a baby with tattoos, now whether Lil wayne had tattoos as a baby or not is oblivious as there is no information on the internet about it. However if he never hhad tattoos as a baby, before reading the text on the right handside of the front of the album if you know who lil wayne is, you will instantly be able to recognise the artist of who the album is coming from. The baby is dressed up in a suit and is wearing a ring on his pinky finger and has three tear drops on his face with some sort of C sign in the middle of his forehead. I think this is a way to identify the artist Lil Wayner, his tattoos, he wants people to identify him by his tattoos rather than his star image the man with the dreadlock.s. The albums front cover background is black with a sudden theme of black and red text, the font seems like it is arial or times new roman 'regular'.
The font is very plain and simple, probably the reason why the hint of red which is texted as 'Lil Wayne' could mean something, with that particular colour as his name.At the back of the CD cover we see the artist himself but with sunglasses on a black leather jacket, showing us the genre of the music 'Hip Hop', as viewers will follow thsi image as the type of urban typical Hip Hop/R'n'B look. The text of the song list is very plain and the font used for it is Arial. The numbers of the text is in the colour red. Nothing really seems to stand out on the back of album cover . The font size is very small, but readable and once again it has that continuous theme going on at the back of the albums cd cover, the black, red, and white theme. The barcode on the back of the CD Cover comes second to standing out after Lil waynes image at he back of the CD cover.
Shooting Diary
Wednesday 27th October 2010
On wednesday 27th october 2010 I shot my music video within a day in areas in beckton. I had no issues with shooting my music video apart from the unexpected rain at the last scene of my music video, however I was able to work through this and still shoot the scene. I had to provide the props such as the black sofa, and the telephone. On the day of the music video the star motifs make up was done by me so I didn't have to rely anyone to let me down in the end of it. All the directing and videoing was done by e. I have done a lot of mid shots, a few low and high angles. I pretty much enjoyed shooting this music video as it was fun as we were going along with it. We shot three scenes with three different outfits but with the same white telephone in each scene keeping the theme to the song 'Voicemail.'

Music Video Pitch
Permission To Use Artists Song
Pitch For Track - Voicemail
Artists: Delzz- Voicemail
For my music video I will be doing the the track called Voicemail which is by the Artist Delzz.
All the scenes will be based on location. It will be based on my intertextual reference Beyonce- Why don't you love me. The theme of the music video will be very much like that. The music video will start off with a mid shot of the artist with runny black make-up as if she has just finished crying on the phone trying to get through to her boyfriend but to no prevail he doesn't answer. In the music video the artist will have three outfits bringing a lot of a fashion statement into the music video, with that i will refer to Rihanna music video : Russian Roulette as a fashion statement is made within that music video.
There will be shots of her walking with her heels, close up shots on her lips when she's singing and also a close up on her facial expressions. There will be like subtitles for particular words she says. Like if she was to say : "Voicemail." It will be written up on the screen as she is singing, so some words she will sing will be pin pointed out very clearly. As the song is called Voicemail there will be a lot of close up shots on the artists phone as she tries to ring her boyfriend and it always fails.
There will be scenes of her walking on in different roads and closes and then two other scenes of her singing on two different backgrounds for the scene. All these scenes will be location based.
- First scene will be of the star motif with a long shot up against the gate with her long on top of the unplugged radio.
- Then there will be a zoom into a foot and the radio and the camera slowly moving up till it gets to her face.
- There will then be a close up shot of the star motifs face singing in distress.
- Cut editing to a close up shot of the phone trying to get through to her lover
- Cut editing back to star motif against the gate with four clone editings of her going crazy at the phone.
- Mid shot of of the star motif on a different setting
- Tracking shot of star motifs legs as she walks with the phone dangling down her hang
Star Image Analysis
Rihanna - Pon De Replay
This music video is by Rihanna and the track is called Pon de Replay , this was rihannas very first release and it was directed by Little X. The genre of this music belongs to R'n'B and the broad characteristics of the genre that the music holds is the way Rihannas costume is in this music video with the belly top baggy jeans and trainers. This type of trend became a trend for the public and also portrays the Genre. The relationship between the lyrics and the music video are very similar to each other and the illustration of this music video and the lyrics of the audio are very narrative based and is easily recognisable to the viewers to understand the music video with the audio. There are plenty of close-ups in the music video showing us who the star motif is in the music video and who the extras are by not doing any close-ups on them. In this music video we can see how young and innocent Rihanna is, by her image and also her lyrics and the whole illustration of the music video.
Rihanna - If Its Lovin' That You Want
This music video is by Rihanna and the track is called 'If it's lovin' that you want' , this was rihannas second release and it was directed by Marcus Raboy. The genre of this music belongs to R'n'B and the broad characteristics of the genre that the music holds is the way Rihannas costume is in this music video with the beachwear, which tis the typical stereo type for an R'n'B music video. The relationship between the lyrics and the music video don't relate to each other in any sort of way, what is happening in the music video has nothing to do with the lyrics of the audio and the music video..There are plenty of close-ups in the music video showing us who the star motif is in the music video and who the extras are by not doing any close-ups on them. In this music video we can see from her first video she isn't as innocent as she seemed in the first music video and there is a little bit more of a non-innocent side to her, talking about love in a very nieve way.
Rihanna - Umbrella
This music video is by Rihanna and the track is called 'Umbrella'. The genre of this music belongs to R'n'B and the broad characteristics of the genre that the music holds is the way Rihannas costume is in this music video with the white tucked in top black lwet look pants, black boots and also the hairstyle and the make-up, which is the typical stereo type for an R'n'B music video. The relationship between the lyrics and the music video relate to each other, especially with the theme of the music video knwoing that it's called umbrella and the theme is within it with the rain and the umbrella. There are plenty of close-ups in the music video showing us who the star motif is in the music video and who the extras are by not doing any close-ups on them. In this music video we can see from her first video she isn't innocent at all, shes more of a good girl gone bad and star image has changed her type of costume has changed there is more of a bigger impact with her costume and over all the hairstyle in this music video became a very big fashion trend worldwide known as the rihanna hairstyle.
Rihanna - Rehab
This music video is by Rihanna and the track is called 'Umbrella'. The genre of this music belongs to R'n'B and the broad characteristics of the genre that the music holds is the way Rihannas costume is in this music video with the big earrings and the indie type of style which is the typical stereo type for an R'n'B/Indie music video. The relationship between the lyrics and the music video relate to each other, however it is not narrative based and it is not the typical sort of video you would see with the track entitled 'Rehab'. There are plenty of close-ups,mid-shots,long-shots in the music video showing us who the star motif is in the music video and who the extras are by not doing any close-ups on them. In this music video we can see from her first video she isn't innocent at all, she has now gone past the phase of being the good girl gone bad to a typical woman being addicted to a man that she loves.
Rihanna - Russain Roulette
This music video is by Rihanna and the track is called 'Russain Roulette'. The genre of this music belongs to R'n'B and the broad characteristics of the genre that the music holds is the way Rihannas costume is in this music video with the big fashion costumes the hooded gilet, and the boob tube, which is the typical stereo type for an R'n'B music video and clearly trying to make a stamp of a fashion statement. The relationship between the lyrics and the music video relate to each other, especially with the theme of the music video knowing that it's called Russain Roulette and the theme within it is of her being carried by men who follow the typical sterotype of russain me.There are plenty of close-ups in the music video showing us who the star motif is in the music video and who the extras are by not doing any close-ups on them. In this music video we can see how far her image has taken her to an extent where she is not afraid of anything to even be able to stand infront of her car to run her over.
- In conclusion throughout the music videos we can see how rihanna has changed from being innocent to a woman without any fear. As her songs change her costumes and her image changes within her music videos and also in reality. From having the long brown hair to the black bob to the shaved head with the hair on the side, making it almost a publicity stunt as others such as viewers have followed on with this trend with hairstyles and also her fashionista ways in her music video.

Textual Analysis'
Beyonce - If I Were A Boy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIkRiqxWcYU&ob=av2n
The video that I am analysing is Beyonce- If I were A boy which was directed by Jake Nava and the song was written by Toby Gad and BC Jean and was also produced by Gad and Knowles for her third studio album I am Sasha Fierce. The characteristics of the music video are clearly showing the genre just from the star motifs as we all know that Beyonce produces music of the R'n'B Genre. In the beginning of the music video we can see how the camera keeps on cutting between the two people, we instantly see how they are the star motifs within the music video, at this very point of the music video the track has not yet started. The relationship between the lyrics and the visuals make a lot of sense, there is a beginning, middle and end and evidently has some sort of story line to the song. Being familiar to the main line of 'If I were a boy,' we can see how she illustrates how things will be if she a was a boy, dressing up like a police officer and doing the typical stereotype of a man. We can see how her boyfriend\husband makes her breakfast but she doesn't seem to have time to eat his breakfast then he seems disappointed, so now things are opposite, and he seems to be feeling what she was feeling at one point.
There isn't really any intertextual reference to this music apart from maybe the lyrics being inspired by the Artist Ciara- Like A Boy, this could be beyonces reference for the music video. As Ciara talks about what she would do if she was a boy rather then illustrating it in her music video, whereby in beyonces music video the illustration and the direction is well done, she shows if she was a boy the type of job she will do and the type of things she will do and also the way that she would behave.
We can see from her costumes they're very homely and also basic costumes, of people in our society. One where she is wearing a vest top with her hair back showing how a typical woman would be dressed when they're at home so in the music video they have really tried to make the viewers notice this and see how a normal person is being portrayed. Probably because Beyonce normally does music videos with wild, exciting, glamorous costumes and for a change she has normal casual clothing on (costume). In the music video she is not portrayed as a provocative woman, and she is not wearing reviling costumes in any way for her to come across to viewers as a woman who is being portrayed in a sexual sort of way .
The video that I’m analysing is ‘Simple Plan- I’m just a kid.’ This music video was directed by Carol Dorsey and the genre of the band simple plan is Pop Punk. The characteristics of the genre of the band comes across in the music video where they have the drummer and also the band playing at the end with their guitars jumping up and down on the stage and their rebel hairstyles spiked up with gel making them come across as rebel. This type of image could be mistaken for rock music. The relationship between the lyrics and the visuals match clearly with the chorus’ first line “I’m just a kid and life is a nightmare.” A series of events happen within the music video showing a Girls car breaking down, A boy being hit by a bus, boy getting drink poured down his trumpet and a boy falling off his skateboard this all refers to the lyrics of the teenagers unfortunate events.
The relationship between one music and the visuals do cut by the beat. E.g. when the boy gets out of the red car and the music starts off slow ; but just as the boy comes into an unfortunate event by being hit by the bus, the music becomes louder and faster, and now you can hear that more than one instrument is being played, with the music basically changing pace with the visual. Within the music video there are loads of close-ups of the artists and star image motifs to make it obvious they are the star motifs and artists as there are so many people within the music video as extras. There are close ups of the artist and star image motifs. The way the record company is trying to sell this track is by featuring familiar faces within the music video so that it can attract viewers of the teenage age. The type of image the band is being offered is like a teenage rock rebels.
This video relates to previous videos by the band as most of their videos just complain about life, as before the release of “I’m just a kid.” They released a single called “Welcome to my life.” This music video once again puts them across as rebels as they stand in the middle of the road complaining about their life as the before the music starts the music video introduces there is something or someone blocking the roads causing traffic. Once again in the music video they have introduced the drums and electric guitars which they have in the video, “I’m just a kid.” And the whole band in the music video throughout as if it was a performance. There are motifs in ‘I’m just a kid’ which has appeared in the bands previous music videos such as their image and their hair and the whole band thing going on.
In this music video no one comes across as sexually displayed well within the band, apart from one female who comes across as one of the star image motifs and also comes across as the female that most of the boys have their eye on, who probably comes across as sexy to the boys. We see this as one of the boys tries to impress her by fixing her car and evidently fails with the electric popping out. We can see how the cheerleaders are displayed as sexual by their costumes, although they may seem as normal cheerleader costumes, but these cheerleading costumes have a lot of cleavage showing and most of the extras that are females have cleavage tops on.
This music video does have a really good intertextual reference in the beginning of it when the boy gets hit by a bus it reminded me of final destination when the beginning of everything was going smooth and then unexpectedly the boy was hit by a transit bus. I can refer this to the music video as this is exactly what happens in the beginning of the music video when the boy gets hit by the bus unexpectedly. Another intertextual reference for this music video could be the tv program ‘Saved by the bell.’ Where it has the teenagers, the cheerleaders etc. Apart from the actors in saved by the bell not looking like Rebels.
